Our history venture this morning scrolled back to settle on the art of illuminated manuscripts. It started with some questions that Max asked yesterday about "patrons" in the arts and why they existed. To find an answer to his question offered an opportunity to hop aboard the time machine and share the journey in a slideshow. The information in this slideshow was garnered from the book, The Art of Medieval Manuscripts by Krystyna Weinstein, as well as the excellent website called Garden of Praise.
ACTIVITY: Use pencils and watercolor to paint a portrait of the Limbourg brothers as they might have appeared. Before you begin, use a white crayon to write his name on the paper and paint over it in dark paint for a resist effect. Make sure to observe the clothing of the time and include them in a scene that would be popular in this time period.
